Cyclical demand in commodities, rapid expansion phases for mining operations and competitive supply chain environments are becoming increasingly common. This complexity requires a more detailed analysis of the mining value chain for asset configuration and operating philosophy to ensure plans translate into reality.
Traditionally, supply/demand chain simulation analysis is carried out in house, typically on spreadsheets, or by consulting organisations that generate report-based scenarios for investment decisions. The client rarely has access to the detail of the model, making it difficult to validate results and inefficient to change and re-simulate under differing operating and financial assumptions.
Accurately modelling the supply/demand chain for mining operations is critical for assessing throughput capacity, capital expenditure, and risk. The utilisation of SolveIT Software’s APS and SCNO applications for integrated “resource to ship” simulation allows users to change assumptions, parameters, business rules, and/or constraints to generate multiple scenarios. Assets (e.g. mine stockpiles, process plant modules, rail infrastructure, and port components such as stockyard rows, ship loaders etc.) can be added within minutes to run multi-time horizon simulations. The simulation capability of our APS and SCNO applications can also be augmented by our proprietary, non-linear optimiser, which allows for optimisation of the simulation model parameters.
SolveIT Software combines the requirement for simulation and production ready integrated planning, scheduling and optimisation in one demand chain model. This results in a flexible, accurate and client managed software environment for both simulation and production planning usage without the need for disparate applications for each requirement, or costly third party relationships. Mining companies can migrate the simulation environment used for early investment analysis into production with the same application.
